Avocados are a disappointing experiment for any child, and teaches them about death and failure. You gently open the fruit and nonviolently extract the seed within, and then stab it with toothpicks and put it in a glass nobody uses but you know you're not allowed to drink out of. You watch it wither for days and miraculously sprout a thirsty root. You watch the root fall off and horseflies begin to find home inside the house as it rots and starts to mold and stink because you live on the wrong climate. You get bitten on the pit of your knee and it hurts to sit down or have a blanket for weeks.

This should not be taught in schools. This is absolutely the parents' job.
