What is the nicest thing a stranger has done for you?

I was 16 in the midwest, during my forst winter, for am Exchange student program. Sadly, my host family got foreclosed during that winter. To remove us from the house they turned the heating off, which was very painful. In the end I ended up moving to a basement of a relative, together with the entire family. Food was also difficult to come by in the house. It was a very difficult winter for myself but also for the family that took me in.

The other exchange students informed their host mother about the whole situation. She went over and offered to pick me up and let me stay with them which I instantly took upon as the situation seemed to be worsening by the day.

I think this is definitely the nicest thing anyone has done to me, a very lost and rather desperate exchange student. One of the few happy memories I had while living in the US (a lot of bad luck!)
