I assume you're an American. I am too. Taxes are such a joke. There's literally zero reason you should have to do taxes unless you own a business. The government already has all the information they need. Your employer reports your wages, your bank reports your interest, your investment brokerage reports all your gains and losses. They have it ALL. They can literally just send you a letter saying you owe x amount or send you a refund automatically.

There's no reason this can't be done. Other than the companies who write tax software lobbying for it not to happen.

That's it. Think of how much time and energy is wasted by millions of people in this country all so a few companies can sell some software every year. It's pretty disgusting.
