What is the point of recognizing the illusoriness of the self?

I get your point Hans but if most seekers are really really honest with themselves I think very few really care about truth. They might think so but actually just want some relief, peace and less suffering in their life.

Agreed, but recognizing the illusion of self may not give a person any of those things, at least in the short term. In fact, it may actually do the opposite.

Also at some point on this path you either get caught in some kind of dogma or you realise that there's no way to really know truth being a human ape unable to ever look outside and see objective reality.

I would amend that last part to say that you realize that there's nothing objective to be found in the mind, at which point you can stop looking for truth there, because you're never gonna find it.
