What’s the most memorable experience you’ve had with a Stranger you never saw again?

During a vacation with friends in NYC walking around Central Park on our last night there, disappointed we didn’t see snow as it’s extremely rare where I’m from, we spot a random open area somehow covered in it. Unconcerned with how it got there we run over to it and start making snowballs. A lady approaches me speaking a language I can only guess was Italian and is pointing over at her young son who has joined our mini snowball fight by this time. I ask the lady if she speaks English to which she replies the only word I understood from her, “no.” Smiling as big as the rest of us were at the unexpected snow, she pulls out her and hands it to me, motioning to get pictures of her and her son playing in the snow. Of course I oblige, taking the phone and handing my frozen ammo to her son in the process. As I back up and prepare to take some pictures, he launches the snowball making direct contact with his mothers face. Having supplied him, I was in shock and thought surely this woman was going to berate me at any moment. However she was unfazed — so much so that without even wiping the snow off of herself, she picked him up, holding him up in the air while they shared a laugh I could only describe to you as one of childhood wonder. I took a photo album’s worth of pictures for her and returned her phone, smiling in awe of what I had just witnessed while she gratefully hugged me. We all continued to pelt each other with snow until going our separate ways, never to speak again. Despite being unable to communicate verbally with each other, she taught me so much that afternoon. I hope she and her son are well, wherever they are today!
