The irony is... they are "friends" with me, but have only started talking shit behind my back recently. Honestly, the chick isn't so bad (she's just an honest+vocal person), but the guy is definitely a bad influence to her as he's pretty much possessive of his friends.

Basically, the situation is that we started school and pretty much established two different friend groups. After a while, I started bridging my group with the other by befriending said guy. And now since I'm becoming closer to his other friends (especially the girls), he's starting to think I'm overthrowing him or some shit, and he's trying to bring me down by talking shit about me and twisting things that happened/I said to make me seem terrible. I can conclude that he's absolutely jealous, and has nothing he can do about me being friends with his friends. So he's actively starting to look for things in me he can take advantage of. I know this because he was talking shit about me while one of my friends from my friend group was around.

Now the problem is I was transferred to another section specifically with them for the next semester (they say they mix it up every semester but the chances of this happening makes me think otherwise), so there's no avoiding them, at least for another semester. I'm planning of befriending other people from the section (since they're unfamiliar to me), but of course I anticipate him making up shit about me like "oh look he's ditching us for people he's never met before" or something to that effect.

It's a good thing I've outgrown this petty mindset much earlier than him, since I can focus on things that actually matter (school). He's just such a negative guy to have around, it's honestly just exhausting being with him. I'm basically going to be ghosting him and he can say whatever he wants about me.
