What is the unluckiest situation you have ever been in?

I bought a keyboard (piano) from a pawn shop. Few months later, decided I didn't want it anymore so put it on Craigslist. A guy bought it from me, and a few months later I get a call from a detective asking if I sold so and so this keyboard. I said yes. He said that so and so sold it to a local instrument store, and the instrument store put it out on the floor to try to sell it. Turns out, the keyboard had been stolen from some church, and a person from that church was in the store and saw the keyboard, thought they recognized some distinctive scratches on it, looked at the serial number, and then confirmed it was the same one because they had kept records of the serial number of all their musical instruments for whatever reason.

The cop was being a dick on the phone. I have a degree in Criminal Justice. There was a point where I really thought I need to stop talking because he threatened me with charging me with receiving stolen property, or possible stealing it to begin with.

I paid in cash because well.. it was a pawn shop and I thought I could haggle the price down a bit with cash, which I did.

I didn't have a receipt anymore. The pawn shop claimed they had no record of it anymore as they only kept records for 90 days.

The only thing I had was I took a picture of the keyboard while it was on display at the pawn shop and sent it to my friend asking him if he thought I should buy it. The GPS data was saved in the pic and put me at the location of the pawn shop, on the day I claimed to buy it.

The detective started calling me more often, and I told him I had some more information. I finally left him a pretty rude voicemail because I was sick of his shit, and I never heard from him again. I googled his name, he shot a 14 or 15 years kid and killed him several years prior.

I really thought I was going to be arrested. The person I sold the keyboard to is still convinced that I am the person that stole it. It was some asian guy and when I met him to sell it, he was with his brother and they just kept speaking their native language to each other after one of them would negotiate with me in English.

0/10 wouldn't do it again.
