What Have You Watched This Past Week That is NOT a Currently Airing Show? [February 7th, 2016]

Baccano! (1-16/16)

I know that there is technically only 13 episodes, but I'm just gonna count the specials anyway. When I started this anime I had never heard a single thing about it, or even really seen it talked about on here. Baccano! has a very odd order in which it shows you parts of the story (kinda like Pulp Fiction) but by the end almost everything will make sense to you. Another confusing aspect of this anime is the fact that there are 3 different plots occurring simultaneously. The greatest thing about this anime in my opinion is the characters though. There are so many of them and honestly you could make a case any one of them being your favorite character because they all have so much personality. I've watched a few series since I finished Baccano! and I still have the OP stuck in my head because it's so god damn great. Animation is pretty impressive, but not the main focus for me when I'm watching it. Overall I recommend you check this out immediately if you haven't. It was very close to a 10 for me and it's one of the best and most creative anime I've seen yet. My favorite characters are Claire Stanfield, Firo and Ennis.

Cowboy Bebop (1-26/26)

I'd say most serious anime watchers have at the very least heard of Cowboy Bebop, but may have put off watching it because they wanted to watch other shows and I was in this group for a while. Finally I decided to see what all the fuss was about and wow have I been missing out. Cowboy Bebop is a mostly episodic anime that focuses on a small group of bounty hunters in space and their daily adventures for the most part, but there is a larger plot that slowly reveals itself as you get further into the series. As far as characters go I loved most of them and was very interested to see how their stories would each conclude. The only character I didn't care as much about was Jet, but that's mostly because he was the guy who played it safe which is needed, but not usually interesting to me. Spike Spiegel is such an amazing character I honestly could talk about him all day. In the English dub he is voiced by Steven Blum who also voices Mugen in Samurai Champloo and god damn does he know how to make a character sound badass. The animation is decent, but this is an anime from 1998 so I wasn't expecting Unlimited Budget Works level animation obviously. Just like Baccano! the OP for this is absolutely godly and neither one of them can be skipped unless you just hate good music. Overall I recommend you drop whatever you're doing and watch this immediately. Cowboy Bebop is a masterpiece in my opinion and one of the greatest anime I've ever seen. My favorite characters were Spike Spiegel, Faye Valentine and Vicious.
