Whats a company secret you can share now that you dont work there?

One homeless mission is very well endowed. Their bank account is over $12million. They are constantly doing fund raisers and asking for donations. They claim poverty and operating at a loss to help the homeless be sheltered in a harsh winter climate.

Over the holidays they did a huge push for donations (as is common at that time of year) and they said they had no funds to feed the number of people they had at the shelter.

It was a bald-faced lie and I knew it. I had been a part of a group reviewing their books the year before, and we shared what we found with the city council.

Silence. Never mentioned and the shelter still operates. I wouldn't be surprised if there were new line items paying "accounts" that are city council members.

I was at that fund raiser and everything in me wanted to stand up and scream "He's LYING!! They have a LOT of money, they just don't want to spend it!"

They built an additional building not long ago, and they had every bit of it donated. From the nails to the labor--which they used the residents for some of it, with no pay. Which is illegal btw. They pretty much said 'you get a free place to stay and three meals a day, you need to volunteer or get another place to stay'. Which there is no other place to stay within 300 miles, especially in winter.

I can't deal with the grift that is charities today and in particular the homeless ones. It's a scam, plain and simple. As much a scam as the corner jockeys with a sign saying they are starving and homeless, when many are not even homeless and def are not starving with all the free food in town.

All someone has to say "it's for the homeless" and money rains down. Why no one has connected the dots on why hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent and yet homelessness has worsened amazes me. Of course they'll blame the economy, the rental market, the president, and anything they can think of.

But not the fact that all that money is going into their pockets and none is going to the homeless.

This shelter is actually operating illegally and I think the only reason it hasn't been shut down is the public outcry. They've been through four directors in under three years.
