What's the most American thing ever that if explained to a non-American might just sound crazy?

USA born and raised here.

I've only left the country once, it was a day trip to the Bio Dome in Montreal, we only went because we were in upstate New York visiting family and it was before you needed a passport.

I also haven't had a paid vacation in 3 years. When I finally saved up enough paid time off to take a week off I had to schedule it, then 2 days before I was told I couldn't take it then because "we're going to be busy". I finally got that time off and spent it at home because we have too much debt to travel.

Also I have no health insurance, current job doesn't offer it and I can't afford a plan on my own(lowest quote I got was $155/month with a crazy high deductible) Cost me $1000 to have a small piece of material removed from my eye, I'm currently paying the hospital $25 a month for it at the lower negotiated cost of around $750. The removal and eye check after took 10 minutes.
