What's something men do to impress women that actually impresses women?

I have this problem with other people, and I very rarely vent about things because it's not in my nature. Biting my tongue was always frustrating, but I just had my mind changed completely on the issue.

I was having repeated problems with a new boss, and the first few people I told all gave me shitty advice. Quit immediately, call her directly out on it, try to take more power for myself. What the hell? The first advice that comes to your mind after hearing a tiny fraction of the story is not gonna be the Art of War. I thought through all those options, and decided against them based on the massive amount of information I had. The only good "advice" I got, was to wait it out, as most of the errors were coming from lack of experience. Which I had decided on anyway, as the only logical, non-cry-baby way forward. But short term? It was frustrating as hell, and I was complaining because I knew what I had to do, and it sucked short term. I found myself frankly insulted by suggestions. This has been pissing me off for weeks, and you don't think I've stumbled upon the brilliant idea of quitting?

Now, maybe this doesn't follow 100%, or even 75%, but often people complain because this situation is bad and they are resigned to it. If they're undecided, they'll come to you for advice, and yes this does require a certain degree of interpersonal skills to distinguish one from the other. But, as a hard rule, expecting your first response to be something they haven't thought through is insulting.
