Why is it that when people do horrible, vile, grotesque crimes our society never tries to investigate how this person became such a disgusting monster?

A lot of the responses here have to do with childhood abuse.

That's a false lead, plenty of serial killers came from healthy, regular, average homes and had normal childhoods.

Plenty of people with abusive childhoods are highly empathetic people.

My guess is, you guys don't want to face that human beings (including you!) are both apex predators and social animals. We're a strange creature.

So, instead of looking at yourself in the mirror and seeing your own dark side to being human, it's much easier to throw it on an "otherized" figure, like people who had the misfortune of having screwed up lives as kids.

So, here, you're all acting like serial killer-lite by throwing poor fucks with bad childhoods under the umbrella of possible serial killer.

See that dark side in you now that you're so afraid is there? It's that we're a really weird, complex, flawed animal.
