The White House website's page on climate change just disappeared

Peacetime is the time for re-consolidation. Simultaneous protracted wars put the military through the wringer, with funding being diverted to support asymmetric warfare. The military right now is leaner due to downsizing, but they are not tooled properly for a conventional conflict.. yet. Right now we would likely win any war with any adversary, but the cost on all fronts would be staggering.

I spent 8 years watching it happen first-hand. We went from "Russian doctrine" to asymmetric doctrine somewhere around 2006. The entire military shifted away from nation vs. nation to nation vs. insurgent. Funding left combined-arms training in favor of COIN. Soldiers outside of elite units became undisciplined and weak.

Whether you agree with it or not, Trump wants a return to the national sovereignty of yesteryear. That means the military is going to prepare for conventional warfare by what he calls "strengthening".

If the current leader were a globalist I'd say our military is doing great, but that isn't where Trump wants to take things.

The economics are in his favor in the short term. If we rape the planet and we'll be incredibly prosperous for awhile. On the other hand he would likely argue, while globalism is more peaceful in it's full realization it has a way of economically enslaving the plebeian that's almost unavoidable with insane advances in technology.
