We're not there to "Protect" employees. I have no idea how this idea ever got started. We're there to help employees figure out how to do all the behind-the-scenes bullshit they can't figure out on their own. Stuff like figure out how to log into your company email the first time. Or stuff like how to get a parking pass for the garage. Or how to get you your W-2s because, oh yeah you totally forgot to tell anyone you moved 6 months ago. Or when you fall off a ladder and need to file a worker comp claim you call HR.

If you need someone to protect you call a bodyguard. If you need someone to help you figure out how to setup your 401k call HR.
