I wish we had never registered at Macy's [Rant]

I had a really bad in-store experience buying for a friend registered at Macy's. I went on the Wednesday before her bridal shower (on a Saturday) to get the toasting flutes on her registry list. The website showed 3 in stock at the store near me. I get to the store and print the registry again at that store and they show 3 in stock. I couldn't find them anywhere, so I asked the lady working in that department to help me locate them. I stood there for a half hour while she searched the floor and the stock area in the back only to have her come back and tell me there were none and that the nearest store that has them is a good 5 states away. So she tries to order them online to be shipped to me. I explain that the shower is on Saturday, two business days away. She says she can overnight them to me for $20 and reassured me multiple times that I'd have them by Friday. I said sure, as long as I get them on Friday.

I get email confirmation Thursday saying they've shipped and would arrive on Saturday. That was they day of the shower. I call Macy's and ask what's up. The girl says I must've been given the wrong information because Macy's doesn't have overnight shipping, only expedited 2-day shipping. I told her I paid extra for overnight shipping and she said there was nothing she could do except refund the shipping, which I accepted since I was lied to.

So I call the carrier and try to figure out what I can do to make sure I get the package before the shower. They tell me they can hold the package at my local facility so I can pick it up Saturday morning to make sure I get it before the shower in the afternoon. I asked several times if it would be there and I was reassured I could get it as soon as the facility opened that morning.

Saturday morning comes and I check the tracking to make sure the package was there. Lo and behold the tracking states it won't be there until Tuesday and that it's at a facility an hour and a half away. I called the shipper again and wtf'ed. The lady said I changed the shipping to ground. I said no way in hell. She argued that I indeed did and that the shipper employee I spoke to never would have done that without my permission. So I made them hold it at the facility it was at and my boyfriend drove my panicking ass an hour and a half to get the package.

I opened the box while there because there was no way I was leaving without making sure they were safe. I was appalled at the way they were packaged. These were Lenox crystal flutes and they weren't cheap. They weren't in a box. They were loose in a large box wrapped only in tissue paper with brown paper for cushioning. But they were fine. I had them. I got them to the shower and none were the wiser.

Just wanted to share because it kind of sucked and I probably won't give Macy's any bridal business again. I don't trust them after that one, even though the shipper also screwed up.
