women who were diagnosed with thyroid issues (hypothyroid or hyperthyroid) what was the process like?

I went in for my annual checkup. My PCP called me back a week later, told me my TSH levels were a little off, and wanted me to come back in so she could do my bloodwork again. The numbers stayed the same, so she referred me to an endocrinologist.

I got kind of avoidant about going to the doctor's, mainly because I felt scared about being formally diagnosed (if that makes any sense?), but I finally booked an appointment with an endocrinologist last month. He looked at my numbers, and asked me about any possible symptoms. To be honest, I wasn't really sure if I could say I had any symptoms. I felt tired sometimes, which could be a result of my thyroid issue, or the result of my crappy sleep schedule. I had dry skin, which could be a result of my thyroid issue, or just my eczema. I've always gotten cold a little easier than most people, but I'm not always cold. I hadn't/haven't gained any weight. So on and so forth. After he felt around for my thyroid (he couldn't feel it), he concluded that I probably have Hashimoto's and put me on the lowest dose of levothyroxine. I haven't felt any changes yet, but it could be that my dose isn't high enough.

Anyway, I never would have known I had a thyroid issue, had I not gone to the doctor's.
