The ancient Egyptians
Exodus
To the promised land.
He hit the rock instead of speaking to it.
Nineveh
It was as I wrote the last letter I realized my mistake. I was no longer writing with a pen in Mr. Tarfield's third grade Bible class at the new Corinthian Christian Academy. I had a wooden stylus and I was making wedges into a mushy brown clay tablet. The classroom was different. Everyone seemed like they were dressed in outfits from Prince of Persia. Our school had been on a field trip to the ancient Egypt museum before our after noon quiz and I had seen an ancient cat mummy and thought to myself "I would do anything to pass this history exam." I didn't realize that I had awoken an ancient feline deity nor did I realize that my answers to the quiz would change the world.
As my teacher called on me I, I understood the words but the language was all wrong, almost guttural. I looked out the opening from our earthen brick schoolhouse and I remember I need to feed our livestock, that doesn't seem right I used to live in a two story duplex with my mom since my father left. I didn't see the school bus outside either. The air was much cleaner and I could see trees. This used to be a city I thought to my self.
The teacher had walked up to me as I gazed into the woods. My fingers zinged as I heard the whoosh! Crack! On my knuckles.
I was immediately brought to attention. I began to tear up and looked to see if the cute girl I sat next to saw. When turned to look I saw my Ibrim sitting in her sit. That's not right my friend was Jake. The day went on thusly until I got out of school. I walked home with my friends and saw my thatched roof with my father and his three wives and two concubines outside preparing for the Sabbath. I began to do my chores.
I looked up in the distance and saw the chariot approach. I knew I shouldn't be in his way but the driver didn't stop. I kept back into the sheaves of grain and hit the rough ground. A moment later my vision went black. When I woke up I was in my soft straw bed. Judah your brother found you. You need to be more careful. I looked up at my father's face.
The next day we walked to Temple. The we polished the golden calf and said our prayers. I had a flash of pain as I entered the temple. My head felt like a brick hit it. I blinked. I heard alarms going off and felt sticky glass on my face. I could see the mummified cat next to me. I was on the ground my feet were wrapped around a velvet red rope. I was back at the museum.
