[WP] A teenager planning to commit suicide by jumping off a cliff at a secluded lookout he is sure that he only knows about, is surprised to find another person there when he arrives. They start a conversation and soon realize they have much in common. End the story bittersweet.

A man walked up to the edge, staring down into an abyss. Memories of a failed life rushed through his brain. At a distance through the dog, he could just make out a figure, another man perhaps on the same journey. He waved it off, and spread his arms wide. A tap then occurred on his right shoulder. Puzzled, the man turned his head, and noticed a boy of a young age, alone. “Sir,” he asked, “why are you at the edge with your arms spread looking like a bird about to fly?” The man smiled a smile of someone who’s given up, “I've always wanted to try.” The boy was confused, and asked “Have you never been on a plane?” The man stood awhile silent. Unsure of whether to jump and potentially frighten and traumatize the boy, or to humor him until his mother came along. “Why are you here?” The boy asked after they’d sat down. The man chose from a multiple of possible scenarios the answer to this question could bring, “Because, I decided it was time to go.” “Go where?” The man stared at the ground, seemingly ashamed to be telling this to a young boy, “Wherever we go.” Neither spoke for a long time, until finally the boy asked “Are you depressed?” The man thought this over, and then said “Indeed.” The boy nodded, “Mom talks about that a lot. She says that’s why we left Dad.” “Was your father depressed?” the man asked, now intrigued. The boy shook his head. “No, Mom was.” It was at this time the man noticed a few scars on the boy’s legs and arms. “Do you have a cat?” He asked, pointing to some of them. Again, the boy shook his head and said “Dad gave those to me because I accidentally made him angry.” The man pitied the boy, but found it impossible to express it to someone who may not necessarily understand the circumstances of why. “Sometimes I miss him.” The boy mused. “Other times, I’m angry at him, why hasn’t he searched for me?” The man said nothing for a long time, and the boy looked over and asked, “Why are you so unhappy?” The man then responded, “I don’t know.” The boy said “Well, that’s stupid.” As the man smiled he whispered “Yes, I suppose it is.” “When do you plan to leave to where you’re going?” “Once you leave.” The boy asked “Do you want me to leave? Or maybe I could go with you?” The man shook his head, “You’re far too special to go where I’m going.” The boy smiled, “What do you mean?” “I mean that life goes on for you, you’ll have your ups and downs but overall you’ll be happy, and you deserve to be so. The world is your oyster, you have all the freedom, the power, and the traits my generation dreams for.” The boy turned his head to a sound in the distance inaudible to the man. They stood up silently, the man particularly disliking goodbyes. As the boy walked away, he looked back at the man and said “I believe you do too.” He then turned, and continued on. Once out of sight, the man went back to the edge, and looked down into abyss. With a smile on his face and arms open wide, he took the final jump into the end.
