[WP] You're a teenager in the middle of a giant war.

They were as mountains and we were as men. They rose out from under us. Titans ripped the land beneath our feet, churning cities and swelling the waters destroying our innocence. My family, the families of men standing beside me, find me one person who hasn't suffered and I'll show you a liar.

"AC-Nine coming up the ridge. Hold."

The Greek led us. Ansa said that he killed one back when he was a soldier. He might have been lying. Tank commanders lie a lot. It keeps the machine moving, and it stops it on command.

"Son of a..."

He looked down from the range finder at us all stone eyed. We were all blue, not even green, draftees from the rearguard. Deidrich was fourteen. Jamieson seventeen, Elle sixteen and me the same. He was staring at a bunch of kids, and his eyes were distraught, saddened.

"Left 49 degrees."

Deidrich swung the cannon.

"Keep tracking it"

"I've got ticks coming up the northside," Jamieson shouted.

"Damn it. GO GO!"

Kicking the throttle the tank sped towards the hill. A roar of earth became louder and louder against the sound of the engines. Through the cameras mounted outside there was nothing except the white mists of the valley beyond, but the sound was growing louder.

"They're on our six, they see us!" Jamieson shouted.

"Engage!" The Greek returned, "Engage, goddamn it!"

Jamieson let off rounds from the tail. Ansa tapped my shoulder as closed the top hatch and looked over at the screens glowing in front of me.

"It's in there, be cautious."

Turning back he instructed: "Elle, load."

Behind I could hear the sound of metal and gunfire as I drove on. Watching the sky I saw a flicker of darkness and a long wisp in the mist.

"Stop," Ansa commanded, then looked to Deidrich and nodded.

"Firing!" he announced, and the tank lurched back.

A white hot round penetrated the fog and disappeared. Ansa and I waited, breath drawn. Nothing.

"There' still advancing Jamieson said from the rear, they're..."

A darkness came over the valley. In the mists a shadow lurched up from the ground. As it came close I saw a hand of stone clutching the ride up ahead, crumbling it.

"Fire again!"

A lurch forward this time, and I knew what was on us. Jamieson was firing manically, but for every one he took down nine more skittered on ahead.

"Fire!"

The Tank bucked and a bolt shot out into the dark plume, igniting and pushing the thing in the mists back.

"Again!"

Thudding on the back plates became a steady beat now. The ticks were on us, and if they got into the tracks we would be at their mercy.

"Keep firing!"

Another cannon shot went out, but nothing connected. The darkness had vanished.

"Keep..." Ansa went quiet as he saw, "Back, Back BACK!"

My foot hit the floor, but the tracks were stuck. Jamieson cursed aloud and I heard the sound of metal tearing. Spines penetrated the hull, one pinning Jamieson to his chair. The treads were unresponsive. Then we felt it, the earth under us, and we knew.

"Turn on the lights." Ansa said, "We're going to have to fight our way out from the inside."

"They're still coming
