"Yeah, but I mean, it's different though"

Yes, the 1960's vocal brand of racism is (for the most part) eradicated, but racism has not died.

When an athlete takes a knee in protest of police brutality, people redirect the conversation to patriotism. Instead of having informed discussions about inner city violence by police departments, people say "Well the number 1 killer of black men is other black men!"

Some people may not particularly hate black people ("I have black friends"), but they definitely see these issues as less important than themselves. It's a divisive way of thinking, and it's evidence that racism has just taken on a more subtle form.

Please take things you hear in the media with a grain of salt, because every side has an extreme, and they will both be on television.
