When I was in grade 12, my friend and I were put into a grade 10 class (really the course was open to anyone but it was grade 10 level so majority of the class was grade 10). Our teacher was the sweetest, kindest woman, I had her for a class the year before and loved her, and she was also one of the two teachers in charge of a club my friend and I were in. She was one of my favourites.
Almost all these 10th grade kids were nightmares. This class wasn’t a mandatory one so a lot of them took it as time to fuck around and do nothing, and they made this class hell for the teacher. Somehow all the bad apples in this grade ended up in this class. Not shutting up during lessons, being rude and giving her attitude when she asked for basic things like completing homework or paying attention. Most times it seemed like they were deliberately trying to push her to the edge. My friend and I, being the only older students in the class, tried to help get these little assholes under control. One time my friend went right up to the front of the class when these kids were acting up and the teacher was getting visibly more upset, and she screamed at everyone “All of you shut up the hell up right now. Mrs. Teacher is one of the best you’re every going time get in this school and she doesn’t deserve this.” My fries can be scary when she wants to be so the class finally did shut up for the rest of the period.
One day 5 minutes into class the assholes were all acting up again, the teacher started crying and left the classroom. About 10 minutes later another teacher came in and supervised the class for the rest of the period.
My teacher ended up going on stress leave for 2 months because she couldn’t take the treatment from these kids anymore. She came back for the last bit of the school year but didn’t return the next year. I added her on facebook after graduation, she’s working elsewhere and is doing really well now. As for those 10th graders, it’s a small town so even after graduation I heard where they ended up. Some dropped out of high school, none of them ever really amounted to anything, and they’re still giant assholes. I’ve always hated them for doing that to one of the best teachers I ever had.
