I mean you're right they are very different types of crimes with different motivations. And it doesn't mean that either one of them is worse than the other, they're equally bad. They're both issues that need to be remedied and have different causes like you said. And while it's true that white supremacist like to use statistics like this to prove a point, it's also true that mass shootings take up significantly more coverage than gang violence, while gang violence actually causes more deaths.

It can also show the hypocrisy of the media and people that give mass shootings endless coverage and attention while mostly ignoring gang shootings. I guess the reason is because mass shootings are a bigger, more shocking event, but it's the same shit when it comes down to it.
