2018 looks to be the most barren and least interesting years for mainstream game releases. What are your thoughts?

Last year was extremely disappointing...

First we're going to have to wipe out every indie in there, as this topic is about mainstream games, and we all know what games sell huge numbers and are AAA and what ones don't.

Also most of your potential 2018 have no chance of coming in 2018 and you know that.

No I'm fully aware of the expected release dates of your potential list and those announced but not targeted with a date yet games. My issue is that there aren't many mainstream games coming out in 2018.

From your list the 2018 mainstream games would be:

  • Far Cry 5, a shooter which has huge controversial factors and may not sell well due to political factors and has had talks of being delayed.
  • God of War, a change to the entire game that has controversy and its sale metrics are different, it's hard to say if it's even a platformer game or just a hack and slash walking simulator.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 which will likely sell well but keep in mind western shooters aren't a popular genre with shooter fans typically, so it's going to be interesting if the first one's sale metrics over time go down to the second games.
  • Crackdown 3, which was a shooter platformer destruction game and seems to have significant changes to the destruction system from when it was officially first announced. How that does is indeterminate, many people bought the previous games because of things they were coupled with in the past.

Honestly at least one of those won't have mainstream sales.

Metro Exodus will sell well but it's always been underappreciated in sales so it may not reach high popularity AAA sales any time soon, the inclusion of more open world features may impact it too.

That's an incredibly bare list you've given, granted a few other games than you mentioned are coming out in 2018. Probably Last of Us 2 so that's one action adventure walking simulator and Detroit which is just a walking simulator and its popularity will be indeterminate.
