I had an experience where a neighbour died and his wife I guess was in shock and just carried on like nothing was wrong for over 2 weeks - the smell was not especially strong but I think we maybe have an instinctual response of repulsion and even aggression to protect us from disease or maybe to avoid attracting wild animals to our homes. It was driving me crazy, I couldn't sleep or eat... I became very aggressive as the same useless British policewomen would come and softly knock on her door and tell us they couldn't do anything and leave - they then wanted to arrest me and called for backup who immediately recognised it and forced entry.
