77 years ago on this day "Little Boy" was dropped on Hiroshima by USAF Bomber "Enola Gay", releasing 63 terajoules energy, equivalent to 15K tons of TNT. Little Boy became the single deadliest military operation against civilians, killing 70,000 people instantly, and over 130,000 people eventually.

I've been building a collection of primary photography of the bomb damage in Hiroshima and Nagasaki for 10+ years. It's surprisingly uncommon to find because of censorship and camera bans in place by American authorities who wanted to tightly control the public narrative around the bombings. One thing that I've found super strange and disturbing over my years of scouring the internet and in-person military shows is the hero-worship and proliferation of memorabilia surrounding the flight crew of the Enola Gay, Paul Tibbets in particular. When he was still alive, he was a huge draw at these military collector shows and folks would line up and pay to shake his hand, get a photo with him, an autograph, etc...
