Adults of Reddit with jobs

I work in property maintenance. Got in almost accidentally. I took a job as a jack of all trades type assistant for a business and was and to parlay that into a gig as a full blown maintenance worker for an apartment complex. Been growing since.

I love my job and I especially love the places I can go with it. I'm qualified enough to get interviews for a wide range of positions and there's such a shortfall of honest, hardworking employees that once you get a reputation and a little experience, you can lock down a job easily.

The biggest thing I've noticed is the difference in responses to my applications. When I was doing retail, I'd be lucky to hear back from 1 or 2 out of 50 applications. Now I get responses on ~30% of jobs I apply for. I have demonstrable skills as opposed to squishy Well I'm a good team player answers when someone asks about my qualifications.

It's a nice gig. I'm fortunate to be here.
