AITA for Inviting my Controversial Friend to My Wedding

Sure - I’ll clarify that I’ve never met any conservative who has expressed anything like that to me. I only know what I observe, I can’t speak to all the views held by everyone I meet.

Literally every conservative I know and with whom I’ve had relevant communications thinks:

  • people are and should be equal without regard to skin color, and anything else is racist, and

  • gay people (or trans, queer, whatever) are fine but they don’t want certain stuff pushed at young children.

The latter view admittedly has a LOT more variation than the first, with the most common views being “who cares, none of my business” and “it’s wrong for religious reasons but they are properly allowed to live as they want.” As a general rule, the only time I see people express strong stances on banning anything in this area is when children are involved; I’ve genuinely never known anyone to say that “queer people don’t belong in this country” - they generally just don’t give a crap what other adults do.
