AITA for telling my parents that if they won’t tell me the truth, I’ll assume the worst of them

This one is always going to be a tough one for me because my daughter does not know that her father tried to rape me one night when she was at a sleepover. She doesn't know that her grandmother publicly humiliated me and then tried to physically attack me. She doesn't know about her father's aggravated DWI that he spent $20K trying to erase. She only knows the tales her father spun about me when I vanished one day for my own protection.

I moved an hour away from my home. I moved into an apartment that had no kitchen, but did have 3 locking doors between me and the outside world, with the added benefit of having a set of stairs that were a death trap, and 2 landlords that were in a motorcycle gang, openly carried forearms, had no compunctions about violence, and very questionable political views because I was terrified of her father.

Do you want to know things like these about your parents? I have never told my daughter about the details of why her parents' marriage broke down because she does not need to know. She has a father that treats her like royalty, and a missing mother. I would rather she hate me than know the truth about her father because it would devastate her. She always was Daddy's Little Girl...In a wholesome way, not a creepy way. He may have been a shit husband, but he does adore his daughter.
