AITA for telling a student she was illiterate

I am okay with this as long as it doesn't distract the other students, because it is their bad decisions and they should learn to motivate themselves to do their work.

Yeah, no. YTA at this point already. Your job is to get and hold their attention. I know it's hard, and not even completely possible, but you've given up way too early.

She claimed that I hate her

If I were teaching Chelsea, I would get someone to tell her (maybe the principal) that the best way to deal with a teacher who hates you is to make them give you A+'s. If a teacher actually hates you, they will hate giving you top grades. By not turning in work, or turning in lousy work, you play into their hands.

I was given that advice as a middle schooler, and it paid dividends.
