Amazon's unhelpful customer service chat

Opening or disposing of someone else's mail is illegal where I live. (Even if there was no way to prove that it wasn't mine when bringing it to said donation facility or by throwing it out, I would like to abide by the law) It is a large, heavy package so I am assuming that it was expensive just for the cost of shipping alone, so I don't feel that donating/disposing of someone else's expensive product is the right thing to do. There is no guarantee that this customer will contact Amazon and get their refund/correct their address to receive what they ordered so I was hoping they would at least ask me to provide the name/address so that they could contact their customer and inform them that their account isn't up-to-date.

I decided that I would try calling the customer service line instead of doing the chat, to see if they could work with my concern about breaking the law. The rep I spoke to said what the chat told me was nonsense and that I need to leave it for our mailman to pick up and return to the post office- so since another level of their customer service gave me entirely different advice, I felt the chat was unhelpful.
