Why Do Americans Work So Much More Than Europeans?

And then they pat themselves on the back for not "being capitalist pigs" or "fucking over the little guy" blah blah blah. It's natural for the less successful to blame their position on everyone else, just as it is for the more successful to credit themselves. The answer is always somewhere in between.

While you can't control your circumstances, you can always control your reactions to them. In 100% of cases, someone else has been in that same exact position before, and was able to achieve success.

I was extremely fortunate to be born in one of the wealthiest towns in the world. However, that alone did not determine my future or that my peers. While it is true that the majority (98% I believe) of my graduating class went on to great colleges, most fully paid by their parents, and are probably doing internships in the Summer, etc, but some kids fucked up and are working dead-end jobs. Others, like myself, decided to strike out on their own, and are doing pretty well.

Also, before anyone tries to claim that wealthy kids can go to great schools without trying, my town's median family income was over $300k, and the majority of people I was friends with made well over that. On Reddit and most parts of the world, these people would be considered rich, and people would say they never really had to work hard in school to go to college. Well the vast majority of my school has a GPA of about 3.5/4, and the average SAT/ACT I heard was about 2000/28.

Simply put, successful parents typically raise successful children because they teach them how to work hard, and work smart. No one I knew, besides myself and one/two friends to a degree, cared about designer clothing or shoes, etc. The richest people I grew up with were almost always the hardest working and the smartest. It's not a coincidence.

Apologies for the rant, but it's so annoying having people condemn the "rich" and successful as bad people, when their only experience with them is through media, a jerky boss, or maybe an asshole at Starbucks who was rightfully annoyed they got their order wrong.
