Any hapas from New Zealand? If so how's life over there?

Whereabouts in NZ will you be staying? I grew up in Auckland and although I'm not a Hapa myself, my best friend is half Chinese-Malaysian and Half British (WMAF), so I think I can give you some idea of what the country is like.

Most Half Asians tend to stick with other Asians, but the areas I lived in and frequent (Manakau-Dannemora-Meadowlands) was 50%+ Asian, so that might have something to do with it, incidentally the Asian population in NZ as of 2015 is around 15%. I've never experienced any racism growing up in Auckland or anywhere else in NZ. I've been around the entire country and even in rural places like Rotorua, Taupo and Kataia, I've never even once received any odd stares from anyone like I have travelling around Canada and America

As for Hapa representation, if you think it’s small in North America, it’s practically non-existent in NZ - I didn't even know Half Asians had a label until a few months ago. Half Asians are generally happy congregating with other Asians, so there aren’t really any racial identity issues for any Hapas growing up in NZ. Essentially they all grow up Asian for the most part.

I would say looking back after living abroad for so long, NZ is probably the best place to live in the world if you want a quiet life and I want to emphasize on the quiet life part because as great as the air, the long pretty white clouds and awesome beaches are, you'll have to live with a few drawbacks like shit tier internet, horrible public transportation (I absolutely hate Howick Eastern) and above all, nothing eventful really happens. If you're really young and haven't traveled and lived in other parts of the world, NZ will seem melancholy at times especially outside of Auckland.

With that being said, the food is the best in the world, lol I know I'm being bias, but I've been around Asia and Europe and after all these years, I still say NZ makes better Western and Asian food than anywhere else. There is this place called Sushi Sora I use to go to all the time, their Salmon and Avacado roll is amazing and so is their Udon. Much better than Japan imho.

NZ is pretty similar to England and by that I mean the road signs; the police uniforms and cars; cable channels like Sky News, Sky 1, Sky Movies; even the accents from some of the news anchors are similar. Other than England, NZ doesn’t have much in common with other European countries except for maybe Switzerland where almost everything closes at 5 with the exception of Thursdays and Fridays where they close at 10.

I could go on, but I feel like this post is already too long and I'm pretty tired.

Overall Glorious Aotearoa is a pretty Chill place.
