Do any of you have a set cash number for an actual retirement goal?

The system is too rigged.

If you were born into poverty, starting from zero, you aren't going to retire in dignity. You can spend your entire life working smart, working hard, and living frugal and investing and saving, and you still will not have enough.

Periodically, at a macroeconomic scale, when the working-class accumulates too much "wealth" in terms of dollars (about every 7 to 10 years), the elitists and their government conspirators do things to "stimulate" the economy, which is just code for an operation, a heist, to tilt things in their favor, stealing away lifetimes of savings, devaluing wages, and devaluing purchasing power of the working class.

If you're in the unfortunate many, who were born with no wealth, who defined their wealth only in terms of tamperable dollars, you will lose a significant portion of your lifetime of savings during these periods of rapid theft. By no accident, these are also the times that the uber wealthy will increase their actual wealth. The last time I experienced this, we lost 50% of our lifetime of savings, tied up in "safe" retirement plans, wiped down, and devalued. This time, it's even larger, something like 75% will be lost after the heist phases are complete.

If you are born into wealth, you have a better chance. If you will inherit actual property and land and other assets, you may fair ok. Perhaps even retire with comfort, but not excess.

If you are born into extreme wealth, you will actually increase your wealth. It's unstoppable, inevitable, as people at this level are generally the price setters, the rent-seekers, the benefactors, who are able to take and take and take the wealth that working class creates.

Anyhow, it's best not to dwell on these things. Play this game in bliss and ignorance. Live day to day with shallow interest about how the system is setup to extract your wealth and enrich the few.

So, what is my number, for when I will be able to retire? Never. As I noted at the beginning, I was unfortunately born into poverty. I'll inherit nothing, I own no true wealth, and no amount of labor will raise me to the next level to where I can actually have wealth, assets, that allow me to accumulate more wealth and define my destiny or to even retire in dignity.

What I can do, and what I am doing, is working to insure our children have a small amount of hope to change, to improve, our family's circumstances. Unfortunately, there will be one final hurdle to cross, to make that happen. Inevitably age and age related illnesses will come, and at least in my country, the USA, our system is setup to bankrupt the working class when they become elderly and ill. So, like a recent relative, who was diagnosed with cancer, I will make a choice. I will either try to continue living healthily yet bankrupt and in poverty after a lifetime of creating prosperity for the wealthy OR I will pass on my earnings to my children and select death.
