Why are you resisting arrest? "Because you guys are stupid"

Well, I was once arrested

Good for you. So was I

for not paying court costs uears prior

Mine was for attending a protest and got hit with some nonsense, which meant having DHS show up at my door with local PD.

he was just doing his job.

Yeah, I'm sure they were "just doing their jobs" too. If your job consists of making someone stand in public view in their underwear at 8am, your job official sucks and you suck for doing it.

Few hours later and a court date, it was settled, and I didn't get a charge for resisting arrest.

In my case, I ended up charged with a federal crime and it took 18 months for me to get it dismissed. For those of you who haven't been through that fun, let's explore it together.

It's 18 months of them holding my jacket as "evidence" even though they admitted they didn't need it. That jacket was a gift from a friend of mine. During that period of time, you're technically on probation and have to report to the US Marshals. It means random visits at home. It means your job being contacted and you're treated as if you've committed a horrendous crime, even though you didn't commit a crime at all. It means that there's a person who will periodically remind you that they can destroy your entire life at any time and for any reason simply because they're having a bad day and you inconvenienced them in some imaginary way. It means they dictate how many hours you work per week, get to decide whether or not your spending patterns are "responsible" or "suspect," and god help you if you need to take a sick day. It means that you need to make a choice if you want to leave the state. That choice being whether or not you want to risk being sent to jail for not telling them or telling them and having your request to see your family denied by someone because their favorite pen ran out of ink and they're cranky.

That was 18 months of my life for a charge that was ultimately dismissed. I could have plead guilty and been done with it way before that. And that was with me being cooperative and polite and everything else I had to be in order to make things smooth.
