The views this man is espousing are disgusting. Call him out, refute his hatred, don't let this sort of speech become normal, accepted or standardized. Criticize these manifestations of Islam, criticize Dr Mohammad Anwar Sahib, and criticize those who agree with him.

However, making sarcastic comments such as "We can't risk being labelled islamophobic!", "religion of peace!" etc. just makes you seem petty and childish. I really thought /r/newzealand would be better than inventing strawman arguments that don't actually exist here, only so they can make smarmy responses.

I hate that I see the title, read the article, and want to come into the thread and make a post against the guy in the article and his belief system. Only to realize that anything I post is going to be validating the people behind the "deport him" comments, the "islamic poison" comments, and the "muh oppression" comments. Then I end up spending as much time criticizing the anti-semitic homophobe as I do criticizing the racist reactionary.

You absolutely can criticize Islam as a religion and you absolutely can criticize Sahib's interpretation of Islam as a religion. No-one is stopping you from doing these things, so get on with it and call out his hatred. The only thing that's gonna get you backlash is when those things translate into "ban Islam", "deport them all", "goatfuckers!".
