Because there is greater strength in numbers, in every conceivable measurement. The economy is better with more people, the country is militarily stronger, there are more and better ideas, etc, etc...

Population growth numbers suggest otherwise. If trends continue, Western Civilization will be gone. We will be a footnote in someone else's history textbook, where they will tell their version of the story because there is none of us left to explain it.
Of course, if you feel like you have no obligation to pay the sacrifice of your ancestors forward and ensure the continuation of our civilization, that's your business, but it still makes you a selfish hypocrite and a waste of effort. Your mother would be proud!
This sounds like something China would do
China had dynasties spanning thousands of years. China is not right about everything, but when it comes to government, we can learn a lot about how they managed to maintain peace for such long periods of time. Also, China has a Chinatown in every major city. Why are there no Americatowns in every major city? Which language will our grandkids be speaking, and which moral code will dominate their thinking?
Why do you want to mandate what other people do in their marriage?
Because I have a direct interest in what others choose to do with their sexual organs. If they choose to philander and leave the world littered with bastard children, that hurts me directly. If they choose to marry and raise kid with their spouses and commit themselves to the greater cause of preparing the next generation, that benefits me directly. If they choose to abstain from marriage and sex, then it hurts me directly in opportunity costs.
Just like I have an interest in seeing everyone around me work to create wealth for themselves, I have an interest in people bearing and raising children properly. If they raise well-adjusted, mentally stable, hard-working and responsible kids, we win. If they raise maladjusted, mentally unstable, lazy, irresponsible good-for-nothings, well, we have the society we live in today.
