Bernie Sanders to Pompeo: Yemeni Lives Are Worth More Than Contractor Profits

Allende was a Marxist, but he wasn't a revolutionary Marxist. He didn't want to seize all facets of power and upend the system in the way the Bolsheviks did, he wanted to be elected and work within the constitution and Chilean political system to implement reform.

The Popular Unity coalition itself was far from unanimous. Allende himself was committed to democracy and represented a more moderate faction of his Socialist Party. He was supported by the Communist Party, that—despite being ultimately less committed to representative democracy—favoured a cautious, gradual approach. For example, the Communists urged to find a compromise with the Christian Democrats and supported the application of reforms through Congress. In contrast, the radical leftist wing of the Socialist Party wanted to smash the capitalist system at once, even if that meant violent actions.[8] If one includes smaller parties, Allende's moderate left-wing line was supported by moderate Socialists, Communists, Radicals (Social Democrats merged with that party in June 1972) and part of the MAPU (later: MAPU/OC), whereas the left-wing Socialists (led by Altamirano), the extremist elements of the MAPU, of the Christian Left and the MIR (not belonging to the Unidad Popular) represented the far-left.

Under the general wiki for his presidency

I just mentioned it because the brainwashed have this perception of communists as all being evil, Stalin-like dictators when he clearly wasn't. And his replacement clearly was pretty shit. It was meant to dismiss any delusions of "well we probably dabbed Chile from something worse!" in anyone reading this.

P.s. when I said nonmarxist I was referring to Rene Schneider, the general we tried to help kill
