People need the help now but there's no way the current 1.9 trillion dollar covid relief bill is getting 60 votes and support from Republicans. Remember the GOP didn't even care enough to give Americans $2000 last year under Trump which would have helped his re-election. There's no way in hell they're gonna help the Biden administration. To pass a bill you need 60 votes out of 100 Senators otherwise it gets the filibuster.

However there's something the Dems can use called budget reconciliation that only requires 51 votes to pass but it can only be used on certain things. So they're combining the covid relief bill with minimum wage to get past the filibuster and speed things along. Even with this is might be a very close call since a couple Dems are not big fans of raising minimum wage.
