Can government be automated at some point?

But I don’t see how. Even if the code is visible, we’re talking about the same thing as how government operates today–the bills are visible after (and in most cases before) they’re signed into law, and people still refuse to do anything because they’re not HELD accountable.

This is more than seeing bills. Think of having a president, who doesn't just tell you what he thinks but also HOW he thinks, WHY he thinks that etc. like you have access to his brain.

That’s not how it works.

That IS how it works. Open source, as in, public is able to see the code. When What's App released it's encryption, people wanted to see the code themselves and What's App made it open source for public to see.

They can’t, but pretending that they could, how do you know it’s the software you’re being shown that is actually running the system?

If we think like the way you do, how do we know president you elected is the one who is running the system?

And?

And this is a discussion. Discussion is, what if we have an automated, publicly accessible, well working AI that runs government instead humans. And your comments are "What if we have a human controlled, public deluding and working for oppression AI?". Discussion is about "having a good government", your comment is "but what if it is a bad government", which is irrelevant, discussion is related to a perfect working AI. This is not about how this AI would work perfect, but IF this AI works perfect, what would happen.

Isaac Asimov had a story about this very thing in which he tells the reader to give up such delusions. Human government for humans.

I know no story (and just check and couldn't find any story) related to Asimov saying "human government for humans".
