CBS Poll: Americans lack confidence in Trump's ability to handle North Korea

A big component that I hear a lot which I didn't see you mention: these people are afraid.

They're afraid of immigration, political correctness, social justice, terrorism, Islam itself. They believe that immigration is ruining culture and society and that liberals are too goody two shoes to see the truth about what's going on.

Every bad event that happens, they see it as proof that things are bad. Then liberals push back with facts and statistics, rationality and historical evidence, and kindness and patience. They feel like they're the only ones seeing what's really going on, that all the liberals are lying to themselves or pushing a narrative that's pushed by the mainstream media - "fake news". They're genuinely afraid of what's happening and their fears aren't being placated by anyone but Trump. They see danger and they think, "something has to be done!" About all of it. Not just the immigration stuff, but the mainstream media, corruption, shadow government, the deep state, all sorts of conspiracies - more and more stuff that they are genuinely worried about that everyone around them infuriatingly refuses to believe even exists.

Trump makes promises that make them feel like they're actually being heard. He shares their opinions and promises action. He gives them hope that there are solutions and he will provide. He also gives them validation. I completely understand why someone with such a seemingly paranoid view of the world would support Trump.

That's my speculation.
