Colombia, largest cocaine supplier to U.S., considers decriminalizing

Ok and? Should the people buying the drugs to take them go to jail if they get caught just because they were trying to have a fun night or they’re addicted? I agree that the cartel is horrible. However, decriminalization is mostly to help the regular people of the country who are the targets of the cartel. It’s so people don’t get thrown in jail for something that is 90% of their exports, which like you said, all go to the cartel leaders and politicians and anyone else powerful enough in that country. So decriminalization in essence, only hurts the cartel because it helps people to find safer ways of taking the drugs or find help to stop taking them. The war on drugs is a war on cartels but it is also a war against average people just trying to escape life
