Please believe me when I tell you that even local media covering stories on local people put spin on things to rile up and divide people. I saw news coverage involving an immediate family member when I was 12. I was privy to the details of the incident, and the local news flat out lied about one detail that only served to make the story sound more tragic, and they made a shady implication by using another, not technically false, but definitely leading statement to invoke public anger. We all should be really careful crafting opinions based on what the news feeds us. My example is over 20 years old, and I've seen the same tactics get worse since then, at all levels of media.
