I don't really want to get in the middle of a discussion about left and right and who's far enough to which direction to be credible to the 'real' base, but it's at least noting that a LOT of the left for a number of years has looked at most if not all of the people you cited as center or center right. I understand they were / are Democrats.
I'm just trying to lend some credence to the idea that those politicians were centrists, and leaned center-right on some issues (or many issues in the case of Clinton and Obama).
I also agree that the traditional GOP is relatively centrist.
Where we might disagree is the direction the new GOP has moved, along with the 'Republican base' and most conservative thinking - that has all shifted pretty significantly to the right by my estimation.
