Daily Discussion Thread 01/12/2015

Here are the records I've picked up lately, pretty much everything since Christmas.

Big KRIT – The Underground Edition (Vinyl Box Set)
Ok I'll start with my most anticipated pick up. I ordered this back in September, but it apparently got delayed a couple months and I didn't get it in the mail until last Friday. Comes with a copy of KRIT Wuz Here, Return of 4eva, 4Eva and a Day, and King Remembered In Time. I'm a big fan of all 4 of these mixtapes from Krit, but I dont own any hard copies of them, pretty much a no-brainer. They're all pressed on either transparent gold or purple splatter vinyl which is cool because they match the great artwork. It also came with stickers, a shirt, and a poster too. While it was a little tough to listen to 70+ Big KRIT sings this week, I'm glad I picked this up.

Sadistik – Flowers for my Father
Very underrated album from 2013, when I found it in the clearance bin I jumped on it. Very cohesive sound and production all the way through. Check it out if you a fan of artists like Cage, Eyedea, Brother Ali, or Atmosphere. At the very least please checkout his song Michael, a tribute song to Eyedea.

Pete Rock – PeteStrumentals
Instrumental album from Pete Rock. Unfortunately I can't listen to this album without thinking about studying for Finals and Midterms, but I'm a big Pete Rock fan so it was still worth it.

Atmosphere – Overcast EP
Nice collection of some of their earlier tracks. Pretty simple. God's Bathroom Floor is easily one of my favorite tracks of all time.

Blu – Her Favorite Color
One of my favorite projects from Blu. I love all the samples/sound-clips from movies and that Billy Holiday sample on Amnesia is so nice You can actually grab it on Datpiff if you havent heard it yet. http://www.datpiff.com/Blu-Her-Favorite-Colour-mixtape.43938.html

FKA Twigs – LP1
Admittedly I don't look out for too much new R&B, but I like what I heard on this album. I had only listened to a couple tracks before hand, but I'm glad I picked it up. This record sounds great on a stereo too, very spacious production.

Flying Lotus – Cosmogramma
This is my favorite album from Flyo and I'm kind of surprised how long it took me to track down a copy. I like all the artwork, reminds me of growing up looking at my dad's Sun Ra albums. My only complaint is that I think the jacket would have looked better if it wasnt so glossy, pretty minor issue though.

Dessa – Castor, the Twin
Another clearance bin find, pleasantly surprised when I found out the vinyl was white. Also came with some sheet music which is cool. For some reason I had convinced myself that Go Home was on this album so I was a little bummed to find out it wasnt. Check her out if your into artists like atmosphere or even some spoken word or singer/songwriter stuff.

John Coltrane – A Love Supreme
Not much to I need to say about this one. Often argued as the best Jazz recording of all time. Seriously if you haven't heard it yet, clear 40 minutes from your schedule and make this the next thing you listen to. Here's a link. Hearing this on vinyl for the first time gave me a whole new appreciation for the drums on this album. There was also something so spiritual about reading the liner notes as the first track played.

Great thread idea Mods, keep it up.
