I have had to buy a replacement modular cable for my PSU as my new GPU uses a single 8pin connection and I didn't realise I didn't have the 8pin to 8pin cable anymore. The store says the cable is for my exact PSU however I'm worried about damaging my new card as the cable is not from the manufacturer so I can't be 100% sure about it. My current GPU uses two 6 pin connectors, and my replacement cable has a 6+2 connector. If I try using just the 6pin part of the new cable with my current GPU (which I am not too worried about damaging) would this be a good indicator that the cable is right for my PSU? I am not sure what the other +2 parts of the connector are for and how important they are when considering this as a test.
