As a big Mike Flanagan fan, I’m a little bummed. However... as someone that generally loathes the Hollywood trend of “if a script isn’t based on a pre-existing universe or some kind of IP, we’re not green-lighting it,” I’m sort of okay with this.

Obvious there are plenty of other factors at play, but that one stands out to me. A Stephen King property based on a critically acclaimed movie bombed at the box office. Here’s an idea — make cool movies that stand on their own!! Stop making The Grudge! Stop rebooting Scream! Because I’d rather take a chance on seeing a new director that might turn out to be the next Jordan Peele or Jennifer Kent.
