Although the US does not have the highest percentage of overweight/obesity, leaving those spots for South Pacific nations, the US has the biggest number of overweight people (just over 100 millions people). Because of that, it is a stereotype that America is the fattest, which, under a certain light, is true.

Also, if you don’t count the Pacific islands (in which being overweight is considered a good thing), the US is ranked right after some Middle Eastern countries (most are very small) and Bahamas, meaning that it is not really that far from being the fattest country in the world.
