I don’t prescribe benzos for crippling anxiety disorders. They’re highly addictive

Anecdotally speaking it's a horrible drug, and it's definitely not a preferred choice for anxiety. SSRIs are better for that. I have had a lot of experience with neuroleptics. I've been on them for 3 years for my schizophrenia and I'm currently on 4 mgs of risperidone, which in itself has horrible side effects but I can live with them for now. It's not wise to stop anyway

A few months ago I was prescribed 25-50mgs of quetiapine for sleep. It's quite common where I'm from as a sleeping pill. I was taking 50 mg before bed(which bare in mind is a small dose). After two nights I had severe extrapyramidal symptoms. My muscles were spasming and my entire body was moving involuntarely. It looked like I was playing the piano while trying to hold my fingers still. My girlfriend laughed at me cuz I kept shaking my head and called me a parkinson's patient. And guess what? I was prescribed Bipiriden which is used to treat parkinsonism.

It's not uncommon to have these symptoms with neuroleptics as they are extremely strong medications and it's not fully known how they treat things like schizophrenia. Funnily enough a small dosage of quetiapine for that small of a time period caused these severe side effects. I've been on high doses of Abilify, Zyprexa, and now Risperidone before. And yes, I had leg twitches before, but not full body spasms like on such a small dose of quetiapine. Though, I never gained weight on them like most people do, but I'm naturally skinny. But I guess a lot of these things are different depending on the person. But I would not recommend Seroquel for anxiety. If someone is scared to try SSRIs for side effects then they should be prepared for those side effects times 100x on any antipsychotic medication. I know Seroquel is also used as mood stabilizer but it's primarily an antipsychotic neuroleptic.
