Egyptians honor 3 Muslim police-women who died defending Christians

Death is always sad. When an innocent person is killed because some radical middle eastern ideology decided it wasn't ok to be, say, a white child in Europe, that's infinitely worse than someone dying in a car accident, for example. We've accepted the danger of car accidents as part of our lives. You choose to take your life in your hands when you take the wheel. The key word is choice. We have not accepted the danger of radical Muslim terrorists targeting the most vulnerable members of our society simply because they're vulnerable. We do not tolerate ideologies that encourage people to murder and torture innocent people because they're different. We've already decided this as a civilization when we decided to bomb hundreds of thousands of civilians in order to stop the Nazis. And there's nothing comical about any of this, you're just displaying your detachment from your own humanity. The reason why we have civilization is that if another culture threatens us by giving up on the unwritten rules of civilization, we ruthlessly crush them. That is what needs to happen to every radical Islamic cleric and his followers, until no one becomes a terrorist anymore because it is simply too dangerous and unlikely to have any effect. You seem to want to take away the power of terrorists by simply ignoring it and accepting it as a part of life: in other words you're asking people to irrationally ignore their own emotions and human nature. We bombed hundreds of thousands of Germans and Japanese not because they threatened us directly but because their entire societies were a threat to our moral values and sensibilities. Our society could not thrive in a world where they were also allowed to be societies, so they had to go. The same is true with radical Islamism, and as Churchill said about Nazism, it must be "sponged and purged and, if need be, blasted from the surface of the earth." We made ourselves vulnerable to attacks that would provoke us into a broad civilizational conflict, and that's where we are now. To deny that is simply to prolong the conflict, like the West did in 1939 and 1940, when they had a chance to nip German expansion in the bud. The chances that a given Muslim civilian will die as collateral damage in this war are, to use your words, "comically unlikely." So I don't see why you're complaining.

Defeatism, on a side note, is somewhere where the Supreme Court has decided there are limits to your first amendment rights, just like yelling fire in a crowded building. Keep that in mind up there on your high horse. Global warming has killed no one, radical Islam takes its toll every day. The attacks today in Paris didn't just cost people their lives, they made our society just that much more controlled, policed, suspicious, and generally worse. Your complete detachment and lack of human emotion, your lack of rage is highly suspect, in my opinion, while minimizing the threat of terror is borderline criminal given the circumstances. It doesn't matter that they're Islamic, it matters what they're trying to achieve. Every one of them has to die. And I'm not saying that's not a sad thing. It's just a simple truth.
