[EU] You are a Stormtrooper facing court-martial. Your crime: you didn't miss, you actually hit and killed a main character.

This isn't even far fetched as a prompt.

Han, Luke, Leia and Chewie were allowed to escape to track the Falcon back to the rebel base. Tarkin literally says this to Vader.

Stromtroopers are not incompetent. They are deadly efficientx so much so that they willingly die on orders to help sell a ploy. We see them storm a bottleneck and completely route a defensive force in the ANH opening with like 4 casualties. We see them completely and utterly devastate and steamroll an entrenched, heavily fortified military base on Hoth. We see a legion of guys wearing "shoot me white" camouflage on Endor, fight out of a sunken pit of an area against highly numerous guerilla fighters with numerous traps, and knowing the area better. They only begin to lose the ground battle once Chewie steals an AT ST and blows up another before turning it on the troopers. It takes a near instant loss of 50% of their ground support vehicles for the battle to sway against those odds. And yes, a trooper even shoots Leia.

Stormtroopers are deadly efficient. This trope of inaccuracy is dumb.
